Coaching for Families with Transgender-Identifying and Non-Binary Children

Parent Coaching for Families of Transgender-Identifying and “Nonbinary” Youth

Thoughtful Guidance for Parents Facing One of the Most Difficult Challenges of Their Lives

My Coaching Philosophy

My work is grounded in Epistemic Parenting—helping parents think clearly under conditions of uncertainty. Rather than directing families toward predetermined conclusions, I help parents ask better questions, improve communication, preserve relationships, and make informed decisions.

Families I Work With

I specialize in coaching parents whose children identify as transgender, trans, nonbinary, gender-fluid, gender-questioning, gender-diverse, gender-expansive, agender, bigender, or gender nonconforming. I work with parents of minors, college students, and adult children.

Common Reasons Parents Contact Me

• Our child says they are transgender.

• Our college student wants hormones.

• My spouse and I disagree about this.

• Our child has autism or ADHD and now identifies as transgender.

• We're afraid of losing our relationship.

• We don't know what questions to ask.

• We’ve heard that affirming the new identity is a gateway to medicalization

• We’ve heard that our child is at risk for suicide if we don’t affirm and medicalize them.

What Coaching Covers

• Parent-child communication

• Understanding gender dysphoria

• Evaluating competing explanations

• Reducing conflict

• School and college issues

• Social transition discussions

• Child safeguarding issues

• Medical decision-making

• Autism and gender identity

• Other Neurodiverse conditions and gender identity

• Healthy boundaries

• Social media and internet protections

Coaching Versus Psychotherapy

Coaching is intended for education, communication, and decision-making support. Psychotherapy treats diagnosable mental health conditions and is available from me only where I am licensed. I am currently licensed in IL, FL, NJ, NY, and PA. I will be expanding my psychotherapy practice with the inauguration of the Social Work Interstate Compact.

Why Families Seek My Perspective

As a licensed psychotherapist with decades of clinical practice and experience teaching Research to graduate students in Social Work, I provide a compassionate, intellectually honest, and relationship-centered approach grounded in epistemic curiosity. I follow the science around these issues, not what is merely fashionable.
